Quakers Meeting House wins Royal Tunbridge Wells Civic Society's Community Contribution Award

West Kent Quakers and supporting groups won this award on 10 October 2019 for the conversion of part the Friends Meeting House in Grosvenor Road into affordable accommodation for young people (9 flats leased to West Kent YMCA).

The flats are let at affordable rents for up to two years for young people moving on from YMCA accommodation. A “Stepping Stones” partnership was formed between the Quakers, West Kent YMCA and Habitat for Humanity, who managed the project. TWBC provided a section 106 grant of £250,000, and the total project cost was £750,000.

In addition, our Barham Plot 'A' new build project featured in Episode 7 of the Sixth Series of Channel 4's Building the Dream with Charlie Luxton.

Swalecliffe Community School

Construction of a single-storey, infill extension to provide an additional classroom under Kent County Council’s Basic Needs work programme.

Works included the construction of new foundations, walls, roof and a full fit out of the new space.

The build took place on a fully operational school site with classrooms either side of the extension.

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you and all the guys on site for doing such a great job. The standard of finish is excellent throughout with virtually zero snagging. You were also very proactive in providing a design solution for the foundation and frame which has resulted in an excellent new teaching space.  I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Highpoint for future projects.

Bedgebury Pinetum

Extension and refurbishment of existing Visitors’ Centre to redevelop the café facilities to provide indoor seating for 100, extend the kitchen and provide a ‘grab and go’ hatch. The new glass fronted extension makes the most of the beautiful views out across the lake.

‘I would like to write to thank you for your work in redeveloping the visitor experience at Bedgebury. The hard work and dedication of the Highpoint team throughout the design and build process, under yours and Kevin’s leadership is hugely appreciated. In particular the care and focus you have given to making sure the final product is of the quality required for a heavily used visitor attraction is of great value to us. We have been very impressed by your ‘can do’ approach which has ensured that the build meets the evolving requirements of the many user groups. Throughout the process you have inspired us with confidence, from the management of health and safety through to the completion of the final details. I have experience of working with a number of local building companies and none of these have matched what you have delivered for us, in particular regarding the safe and competent delivery, and the quality of the build.

The development of the visitor centre, café and kitchen, including landscape works carried out by Highpoint is going to make a huge impact to the experience for our visitors for many years to come. Thank you for making this happen. I hope that this will be just the start for you here and you will bid for more of the development works at Bedgebury in the future. ’

Office Conversion

A conversion from an old farm building into new offices over two storeys, with new floors laid on the ground floor and on the first floor, new walls, insulation, stud walling and vision panels.

Fully carpeted and vinyl flooring laid. Toilet and small kitchens fitted and also fully decorated on completion.

‘Highpoint Development converted part of an old farm building into two offices and associated facilities between May and October, 2009. Scott and his team were at all times courteous and easy to work with, and the conversion was carried out within the contract time.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Highpoint Development.’

Nursery Project

Highpoint constructed all the groundwork and infrastructure for a new modular building, including a play area, fencing and paths around the building. We also organized and oversaw the installation of the new 12m x 21m building for the new nursery unit.

‘I am chairman of a nursery and highpoint has completed the groundworks for our new building. The work is current and on-going.

I have recommended them to friends.’

House Extension

A new three storey rear extension, forming a larger kitchen/dining room on the ground floor, plus a utility room and cloakroom. Also supplied and fitted the new kitchen and utility room.  On the first floor, two new bedrooms were built, one with en suite, as well as one new office and a new bathroom. On the top floor a new bedroom with en suite was built.  Outside, a new patio and walling was built, also incorporating 6.5m bi-folding doors and a glass roof on the ground floor plus under-floor heating.

‘The extension completed for me was a 6 month project; if there were any issues either during the project or now it has finished, (company owner) Scott sorts it out.

I do recommend him to friends.’
